The limited production models are offered with historical BMW M colour options.
BMW M's 50 year anniversary celebration continues with yet more special edition models. The latest special editions are based on the M4 Coupe for Europe and other markets and the M3 for North America and have been badged the Edition 50 Jahre BMW M. ‘Jahre' is the German word for ‘years' – so essentially the car is the ‘Edition 50 Years BMW M'. The Jahre editions get new forged BMW M alloy wheels along with unique exterior colour options drawing from BMW M's historical colour schemes. Additionally BMW India has confirmed that it is bringing its 50 Years of M special edition models to India accompanied by the hashtag 50 Jahre BMW M suggesting that the special edition M4 is coming to India soon - BMW has yet to launch the current-gen M3 in India.
Speaking more on the car the special edition model gets historically inspired paint finishes with global markets getting the option of Carbon Black, Macao Blue, Brands Hatch Grey, Imola Red and San Marino Blue exterior shades. These are paired with Orbit Grey or Gold Bronze matt finished wheels – 19-inches up front and 20 at the rear. The Edition 50 Jahre for the Chinese market meanwhile gets its own unique colours - Fire Orange and Stratus Grey – to commemorate the Year of the Tiger.
Inside the cabin the M4 also gets ‘Edition 50 Jahre BMW M' on the sills and a plaque on the dashboard. The seat headrest also feature ‘M4 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M' embossed into the headrest. Here too M sports seats are standard with buyers getting the option for carbon bucket seats.
Moving to the M3, the Edition 50 Jahre BMW M is only available in the US and Canada and limited to just 500 units. The special edition is available in a choice of five exterior colours Vermilion Red, Techno Violet, Interlagos Blue, Fire Orange and Limerock Grey – all colours BMW M says it has offered over the years. The paints are paired with BMW M forged alloy wheels finished in Orbit Grey. The special edition M3 also gets additional BMW M accessories including M performance front splitter, rear spoiler and carbon/titanium exhaust finishers.
Inside, the M3 Edition 50 Jahre gets unique stitching on the standard-fit sports seats along with Edition 50 Jahre BMW M lettering on the door sills and a plaque on the dashboard displaying the model's serial number. Buyers also get the option to upgrade to M carbon bucket seats.
BMW's made no tweaks to the 3.0-litre twin-turbo in-line six petrol engine under the bonnet. The unit delivers 503 bhp of peak power and is paired with either a 6-speed manual or 8-speed automatic gearbox. Both cars also get the option of xDrive all-wheel drive. Expect the model for India to be offered in a similar spec as the current M4 with standard all-wheel drive.
The company has also said that there will be more launches across model ranges so we could expect other special edition and limited edition models to also be launched in the coming months.
